Dominique Ansel, the famous pastry chef and beloved creator of the cronut, has done it yet again. His latest creation is not made of dough, but is every bit as fantastic as his sought-after baked goods — plus, it comes with hot chocolate.
Drumroll: It is a blooming marshmallow flower. And, yes, it really blooms, much to my and my children’s delight.

Cut to look like a daisy, the marshmallow flower is held closed with a ring of white chocolate that slowly melts once dropped into the hot drink. As it does, the marshmallow flower opens, giving us a taste of spring with our favorite wintry sip.
Genius and almost too gorgeous to eat. Well, except that it’ll melt anyway — so eat without guilt.
If you’re lucky enough to live in or be visiting Tokyo, New York City, or London anytime soon, grab the kids and stop by the Dominique Ansel Bakery to see the blooming marshmallow flower in person. Otherwise, watch it over and over again on Instagram and tell the kids that the itty bitty pebbles of tasteless sugar that come in the envelope hot chocolate that you use are little winter snowballs melting in the hope of spring.
Or, you know, something like that.
